Cold Hamptons Beach on 35mm

The Hamptons is known for its sunshine and social scene but one local photographer finds serenity and beauty in its cold, abandoned winter oceans. She shoots on 35mm film — as a medium that is becoming a remnant of the past — to capture the timeless nature of these uninhabited sites: the images could be from last month, 30 years ago or time immemorial. The muted colors and quietude are portraits of broken and discarded objects, frosted grasses and cold sand. This selection of images, shot on a cold day in Amagansett, offer a placidness through hues that contrasts with the sounds and colors of the summer, offering an alternative vantage of the rugged beauty of the local landscape.
